Language and content integration models in ELT
Synková, Blanka ; Gráf, Tomáš (advisor) ; Klégr, Aleš (referee)
The thesis focuses on the topic of language and content integration in ELT in a broad sense, i.e. it discusses not only CLIL but also other models of content-based teaching, viz. ESP (English for Specific Purposes), EAP (English for Academic Purposes), and EMI (English-medium Instruction). In the theoretical part of the thesis, these models are described as regards their history, typical features, teachers, learners, as well as benefits and negatives. The empirical part of the thesis explores the current practice of language and content integration at Czech general secondary schools ("grammar schools"). The research is based on case studies of five teachers who teach various courses belonging to this category. The preliminary research investigated what courses are currently being offered at grammar schools in Prague; they are mostly elective courses. Our research findings suggest that language and content integration in the form of elective courses is a rather common practice, although often unconscious. Teachers tend to act on the basis of their intuition rather than their knowledge of theory and practice of language and content integration. Generally, it seems that more emphasis is put on content than language in these lessons. Content-based English lessons may be beneficial for learners for...
The use of mobile devices during the instruction at lower secondary school
DITRYCH, Miroslav
Although the bachelor thesis was originally intended to deal with the use of tablets in primary schools, after the pre-research, it was amended to address the use of tablets in secondary schools. The pre-research has shown that tablets in primary schools are rarely used, so it would not be possible to collect sufficient data to create a scientific work. Therefore, i could not make any relevant statistical conclusions, so i focused my research on secondary school. The work was conducted using a multiple case study based on semi-structured in-depth interviews. The interviews were then thoroughly analysed. Interviewed students enjoy learning with tablets, they find them more entertaining, individualized and faster. Teachers find the use of tablets beneficial and useful. There are used many types of applications for teaching with tablets in secondary schools, for example application for quiz repetition, application replacing atlas or periodic table of elements, mathematical applications and applications in which we can find electronic versions of textbooks. There were also identified problems in schools using tablets for teaching, these problems are the insufficient Wi-Fi connection, students violating the set rules, and decreasing performance of mobile devices because of their age.

The use of Wi-Fi networks among primary schools
KLOFÁČ, Patrik
The purpose of this bachelor's work is to map the presence and use of the Wi-Fi networks at primary schools of the Vysočina region to identify benefits and negative aspects, which bring the given solutions, what role has the Wi-Fi during the education, to describe technologies of Wi-Fi security networks, which are suitable for placing into the environment of primary schools. Furthermore I would like to examine and describe the reasons, which led the schools to some definite sort of protection of the Wi-Fi networks. I am going to examine the proper literature, which should help me to dip into the depth of this problematic. I have focused on many cases in which a multiple case study was used. Detected cases were analyzed with a mutual comparison of given parts important for this thesis. I have visited several primary schools where I spoke with ICT coordinators and headmasters and I gained answers for my preparing list of questions.
